All eyes and ears were at attention as Ms. Hillary
Malawar from the office of Virginia Protection and Advocacy spoke
to the Virginia Voices in Action Parent Support group. She covered
subjects concerning eligibility for Special Education and the
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. She addressed meaningful
goals for writing Individual Educational plans. Ms. Malawar answered
individual questions from the group members and guests as they arose
throughout her presentation.
Several members of Virginia Voices in Action have
expressed interest in having Ms. Malawar come back for a return speaking
engagement at one of our future meetings in order that she might
elaborate further and in depth concerning the informational and
educational subjects that are her specialty.
Ms. Malawar graciously spoke with several members
personally after our March 13th meeting to address some of their
personal needs and concerns. Her interesting and highly informative
presentation as our March 2003 guest speaker provided guidance and
answers to many of our concerns as parents and caregivers for children
and adults with disabilities.
We'd like to personally thank those who provided
snacks, beverages and childcare for our March 2003 monthly meeting. A
total of ten children who came with their parents to the meeting were
treated to a Disney video and snacks in a comfortable setting in another
room nearby in order that their parents could give their full attention
to our guest speaker Hillary Malawar and the important issues she
covered concerning people with disabilities.
If you would like more information about
attending one of our informative monthly meetings please email us for
